Last weekend our local community packed up and headed to our house in Pine Mountain. It was a delightful three days of quiet enjoyment. I learned that just reading books in the presence of others is a way of communion. Two of our crew made us “Grand Slam” breakfasts each morning, a labor of love. The night sky was a wonderment; it felt like I could almost touch the Milky Way! All this beauty we would have missed had we not decided to deliberately slow down.
“Why has the pleasure of slowness disappeared? Ah, where have they gone, the amblers of yesteryear? Where have they gone, those loafing heroes of folk song, those vagabonds who roam from one mill to another and bed down under the stars?
…They are gazing at God’s windows!”
Milan Kundera
First, that is a breathtaking picture. Second, it is wonderful to hear people writing about the beauty and amazement they get from slowing down. I really need to start lowing down the times that I am scatter and all over the place.
